Allusion Blinds

If you love the soft look of a voile but want more control over light and privacy, Allusion blinds are well worth seeing. A sheer fabric sits in front of soft vertical vanes that turn to let light in or give you privacy. We measure and fit across Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and the rest of Teesside.

What are Allusion blinds?

Allusion blinds bring together two ideas: the light, floaty feel of a sheer voile and the practical control of a vertical blind. Fabric vanes (upright strips of fabric) sit behind a continuous sheer fabric. As you turn the vanes, the blind moves from softly open to private, and you can draw the whole blind back when you want a clear window.

Privacy and light control

With the vanes open, filtered daylight comes through the sheer. With them closed, you get privacy while keeping that soft look. That's why we often suggest them for living spaces that face the street or neighbours.

Things to consider

  • Stack: like a vertical blind, Allusion blinds gather to the side when you draw them back. We'll show you how much space this takes up.
  • Care: the sheer fabric needs gentle cleaning, and our care guide explains how.
  • Darkness: they're not a blackout option, so for bedrooms we'd usually suggest adding curtains.

Where Allusion blinds work well

Allusion blinds suit large windows, patio doors and bay windows in living rooms, dining rooms and kitchen diners, where you want privacy during the day without the room feeling closed in. Because the blind draws to the side, it's practical on sliding doors you use often. On smaller windows, the stack can take up more of the glass, so we may suggest a roller or day and night blind instead.

Choosing colours and fabrics

Most people choose soft whites, creams and neutrals for Allusion blinds, as they keep the light, airy feel the blind is known for. Deeper shades give more privacy when the vanes are closed but make the room feel a little darker. We'll bring samples so you can see how the colours look with daylight coming through them, which can be quite different from how they look in the hand.

Allusion blinds or voiles and curtains?

A voile with curtains gives a similar soft look, but you'd need to draw the voile across to change the level of privacy. With an Allusion blind, you turn the vanes, which is quicker and gives finer control. Some people like both, with curtains added for warmth and darkness in the evening. We're happy to show you curtains alongside Allusion blinds so you can compare.

Day to day, Allusion blinds are simple to use. You draw them across or back, then turn the vanes to adjust light and privacy. We'll show you how they work when we fit them, so you know how to get the most from them.

Measuring and fitting

We measure and fit every blind ourselves. Allusion blinds really are best seen in person, so you're welcome to visit our showroom, or book a free home appointment and we'll bring samples to you.

Questions & answers

Your questions about allusion blinds

What's the difference between Allusion and vertical blinds?

A vertical blind is a row of separate louvres (upright slats). An Allusion blind has vanes behind a continuous sheer fabric, so when it's closed it looks softer, more like a voile. If you're torn between the two, we can show you both side by side.

Do Allusion blinds give privacy at night?

Yes, when the vanes are closed they give good privacy. Like most sheer blinds, though, they won't make a room dark, so in bedrooms we'd suggest pairing them with curtains.

Can Allusion blinds be fitted to patio doors?

Yes, they're often used on sliding patio doors. The blind draws to one side, so you can open the doors and walk through. We'll check the handles and the space around the doors when we measure, so the blind clears them comfortably.

Are Allusion blinds suitable for a bay window?

They can work in a bay, though each section of the bay usually needs its own blind. We'll look at the angles and how the blinds will stack in each section before suggesting whether Allusion blinds or another style would suit the bay better.
