Smart blinds are motorised blinds you can control from an app, set on schedules or group into scenes. We use Somfy motors and controls, and we'll talk you through how they fit with what you already use at home. We measure and fit across Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and the rest of Teesside.

What makes a blind 'smart'?

A smart blind is a motorised blind that connects to an app or home system, usually through a small hub. That lets you set schedules, create scenes (several blinds moving together at the touch of a button) and control your blinds when you're away from home.

Before you choose

We use Somfy motors and controls, which work with the Somfy TaHoma app and with voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Tell us what you already use at home, and we'll explain how your blinds can fit in with it before you order.

Things to consider

  • Hub: app and voice control run through a Somfy TaHoma hub, which we'll set up for you.
  • Network: app features need a reliable home network, so it's worth thinking about the Wi-Fi signal near your windows.
  • Backup controls: remotes and switches still work if the network is down, so you're never stuck.

Zigbee smart blinds

Somfy's Zigbee motors are made for smart homes. They talk both ways, so the TaHoma app shows each blind's position and battery level, and through the TaHoma switch they work with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Control4. WireFree versions run on rechargeable batteries (charged by USB-C or a magnetic charger), so there's no drilling or new wiring. Read more on our Somfy motorisation page.

Will smart blinds work with my voice assistant?

Yes. We use Somfy motors, and with a Somfy TaHoma hub your blinds can be controlled by Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. We'll set it up and show you how to link your voice assistant.

Do smart blinds need Wi-Fi?

App and remote-access features usually need a home network, and sometimes a hub. Remotes and switches work without it, so you can still use your blinds if the Wi-Fi drops.
