What are vertical blinds?
Vertical blinds are made from a row of fabric louvres (upright strips of fabric) hanging from a headrail, the rail at the top of the blind. The louvres turn to let light in or shut it out, and you can draw them back to one or both sides to clear the window completely. That combination makes them one of the most practical blinds for wide spans of glass.
Privacy and light control
Because the louvres tilt, you can angle them so people can't see in while daylight still comes through, then close them fully at night. If you need a darker room, such as a bedroom or a presentation space, we'd suggest blackout louvres.
Things to consider
- Stacking space: when you draw the blind back, the louvres stack at the side. We'll show you how much of the window the stack covers and which side works best for you.
- Doors and handles: on patio and French doors, the blind needs to clear the handles and let the door open freely. We'll check this when we measure.
- Style: vertical blinds have a clean, modern look. If you'd like something softer, have a look at Allusion blinds, which combine vertical vanes with a sheer fabric.
Measuring and fitting
Getting the drop (the length of the blind) right really matters. Too long and the louvres drag on the floor or sill; too short and there's a gap. That's why we measure every window ourselves at a free home appointment and fit every blind with our own team.
Next steps
If it's for patio doors, you might like to compare vertical blinds with panel blinds. Or book a free home appointment and we'll bring samples to your windows.

Choosing your vertical blinds
Fabric louvres

Blackout louvres
A coated fabric that stops light coming through, for bedrooms and presentation rooms.
Wipe-clean louvres
A practical choice for kitchens, offices and busy spaces.
Stack to one side
The louvres gather to one side, leaving a patio door opening clear.
Split stack
The blind draws to both sides, which suits a wide window.
Curved and bay headrails
Headrails that follow the shape of some bay windows.
Colours, fabrics & finishes
Materials and finishes
A vertical blind is made up of individual fabric louvres, so you can choose from plains, textures and prints. There are blackout, dim-out, solar-reflective and wipe-clean fabrics for bedrooms, conservatories, kitchens and workplaces, and some louvre fabrics can be taken down and machine washed. Many louvre fabrics have matching roller or pleated fabrics, so you can coordinate a room. And if a louvre gets damaged, it can often be replaced on its own.
