What are faux wood blinds?
Faux wood blinds are venetian blinds with slats made from a moisture-resistant composite rather than natural timber. Finishes range from crisp painted whites to realistic woodgrain effects.
Why choose faux wood?
Real wood is beautiful but can warp in humid rooms. Faux wood gives you a similar look with practical benefits:
- It copes with steam in bathrooms and kitchens.
- It wipes clean with a damp cloth.
- It's hard-wearing in busy family homes and rentals.
Light and privacy
Like all venetians, you tilt the slats to control light and privacy, and raise the blind fully to clear the window. Decorative tapes can soften the look.
Real wood or faux?
For living rooms and bedrooms, real wooden blinds offer a lighter, natural material. For wet rooms, faux wood is usually the better choice. We'll help you decide at a free home appointment.
Faux wood blinds for kitchens and bathrooms
Faux wood blinds are one of the options we suggest most often for kitchens and bathrooms. Steam from a shower or kettle, and splashes from a sink, can cause natural timber to bow over time, whereas the faux wood slats are made to cope with that moisture. They're also a practical choice for utility rooms, children's rooms and rental properties, where a blind needs to stand up to regular use.
Faux wood slats tend to be a little heavier than real wood, so on very wide windows we may suggest splitting the blind into two or more so each one stays easy to raise and lower.
Slat sizes, colours and tapes
Faux wood blinds come in different slat widths. Wider slats give a more open view when tilted and a bolder look, while narrower slats suit smaller windows. Whites and soft neutrals are popular because they sit comfortably with most kitchens and bathrooms, and woodgrain finishes add warmth. Decorative tapes run down over the cords and give a softer, more traditional finish.
If you'd like a similar look on a larger scale, faux wood shutters are worth comparing too. Shutters are a more permanent fixture, while faux wood blinds can be raised fully to clear the window, so it often comes down to how you'd like the room to look and work.
Fitting and caring for faux wood blinds
We measure and fit every blind ourselves and will check whether the blind should sit inside the recess (the opening the window sits in) or outside it, depending on handles, tiles and window sills. Day to day, a wipe with a damp cloth keeps the slats clean. Our care and maintenance guide has more tips.

Materials and finishes
Faux wood slats are made from a composite or PVC material with a painted or woodgrain finish. They look similar to timber at a glance, are slightly heavier and resist moisture far better.
