What motorisation can do
A motorised blind, curtain or awning replaces cords, chains and winders with a small motor. You can open and close it with a remote, a wall switch, an app or a timer, whichever suits the way you live.
Choosing a system
- Power: battery motors avoid wiring, while mains motors suit large or frequently used products. We'll suggest the right one for each window.
- Control: remotes and switches are simple and familiar; apps and timers add automation, so things happen without you having to think about them.
- Smart home: if you already use a smart home platform, tell us which one and we'll explain how your blinds can fit in with it.
Powered by Somfy
We use Somfy motors and controls. That means you can choose a remote, wall switch or timer, add sun and wind sensors, and control everything from your phone with the Somfy TaHoma app or by voice with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Find out more about Somfy motorisation.

Is motorisation right for you?
Motorised blinds and curtains make the most difference where windows are hard to reach, very large or used every day. Roof windows, high windows above stairs, wide patio doors and heavy curtains are good examples. They also help if reaching or pulling a chain is difficult, and they remove looped cords and chains, which many families with young children prefer. Our child safety guide explains more.
You don't need to motorise every window. Many people start with one or two rooms, such as a living room with large glass doors or a bedroom where a timer is handy, and keep simple manual blinds elsewhere.
Everyday ways to use motorised blinds
- Morning and evening: a timer can open the bedroom blinds in the morning and close the living room blinds at dusk.
- While you're away: scheduled blinds help a home look lived in.
- Sun and wind: Somfy sensors can lower blinds when the sun is strong, or retract an awning when it gets windy.
- Whole room control: group several blinds so they move together from one button.
Planning a motorised project
If you're building, extending or redecorating, it helps to talk to us early. Mains-powered motors may need a power supply near the window, which is easier to plan before plastering. For finished rooms, battery motors are often the simpler choice. We'll look at each window, suggest the right Somfy motor and controls, and measure and fit everything ourselves. See our motorised blinds page for the styles available.
See them working
Motorised blinds are best tried in person, so we'd always suggest seeing them working before you decide. Visit our showroom or book a free home appointment, or read our motorised blinds guide first.
