What are pleated blinds?
Pleated blinds are made from fabric folded into crisp, narrow pleats. They raise and lower on thin cords and fold up into a slim stack at the top. Because they're light and can be held in tension at the top and bottom, they fit places many other blinds can't, such as conservatory roofs, roof windows and doors.
Privacy and light control
You choose the fabric for the level of light you'd like, from sheer to blackout. Top-down/bottom-up blinds give you extra flexibility: you can lower the top of the blind to let daylight in while the lower half stays covered for privacy. They're a popular choice for bedrooms and rooms that face the street.
Things to consider
- Tensioned or freehanging: on angled glass and doors, we'd fit a tensioned blind, which is held at the top and bottom so it stays in place.
- Pleat retention: pleated fabrics are designed to hold their shape, but they're happiest kept away from direct steam and heavy handling.
- Honeycomb fabrics: double-layer cellular fabrics can help a room feel more comfortable, but they won't replace proper insulation.
Measuring and fitting
Conservatories and roof windows often have lots of different sizes and angles, so accurate measuring really matters. We measure at a free home appointment and fit every blind ourselves, so you can leave the tricky parts to us. Our conservatory inspiration has some ideas to get you started.
Styles & options
Choosing your pleated blinds
Standard pleated
A single layer of crisp pleated fabric, neat and simple.
Honeycomb / cellular
Two layers of fabric that trap air in a honeycomb pocket.
Top-down / bottom-up
Lower the top or raise the bottom, so you keep your privacy and the daylight.
Perfect Fit® pleated
The frame fits into the window bead, so there's no drilling.
Roof pleated
Held in tension, so it stays in place on conservatory roofs and roof windows.
Blackout pleated
Helps darken bedrooms and rooms with roof windows.
Colours, fabrics & finishes
Materials and finishes
Pleated fabrics range from sheer and light-filtering to blackout, in plains, textures and some printed designs. Honeycomb (cellular) fabrics have a double layer that traps air in a cell, which can add a little insulation. The cords also run hidden inside the cells rather than through visible holes, which gives a cleaner look. Some fabrics have a reflective backing that helps reflect sunlight, and we'll show you which ones suit conservatories.
