Bi-fold & Door Blinds

Bi-fold, French and sliding patio doors need blinds that let the doors open and fold freely. We'll help you choose a system that works with your doors, your handles and the way you use the space. Our team measures and fits across Stockton, Middlesbrough and Teesside, from our Stockton-on-Tees showroom.

The challenge with doors

Bi-fold and French doors are opened often, so the blinds need to move with them — or stay completely out of the way. A standard blind fixed above the door can get in the way of the opening or swing about when the door moves, which is why we'd usually suggest something different for doors.

Options that work

  • Door-mounted framed blinds: Perfect Fit® Venetian or pleated blinds are fixed to each panel, so they move with the door. This is often where we'd start for bi-folds.
  • Pleated blinds: slim and light, they fold with the bi-fold panels.
  • Vertical or panel blinds: for sliding doors, these draw clear of the opening — see vertical and panel blinds.
  • Tracked shutters: a premium alternative if you'd like shutters — see tracked shutters.

Things to consider

  • Handles and hinges: blinds must clear the door handles. We'll plan around these when we measure, so you won't find the blind catching.
  • Frame material: framed no-drill blinds need suitable uPVC beading (the strip that holds the glass in place). We'll check this for you.
  • Stack: blinds that draw aside need space to gather at the side when open, so it's worth thinking about where that space will be.

Measuring and fitting

We measure every door panel and fit the blinds ourselves. Our bi-fold doors guide explains the options in more detail if you'd like to read up first.

Materials and finishes

Most bi-fold blinds use pleated fabrics or aluminium Venetian slats in slim frames. For sliding doors, vertical louvres (the long hanging slats) or fabric panels are the usual choice.

Questions & answers

Your questions about bi-fold door blinds

What are the best blinds for bi-fold doors?

We'd usually suggest blinds that attach to each door panel, such as Perfect Fit® Venetian or pleated blinds, because they fold with the doors. We'll check your frame is suitable when we measure.

Will a blind stop my doors folding flat?

Slim framed blinds are designed to sit close to the glass, so they shouldn't get in the way. We check the clearances when we measure, so you can be confident before anything is made.

What would you suggest for sliding patio doors?

Vertical and panel blinds work well, because they draw fully to one side and leave the opening clear. We'll show you both at your appointment.
