Small windows, careful fitting
On a small window, a bulky headrail (the bar at the top that holds the blind) or a blind that sits too far forward can block a surprising amount of light. That's why we'd usually suggest a slim system fitted close to the glass, so you make the most of every pane.
Privacy with daylight
Many small windows are in bathrooms, cloakrooms and on landings, where privacy matters. Top-down, bottom-up pleated and cellular blinds let you cover the lower part of the window while light still comes in over the top.
Opening windows
If the window tilts or opens inwards, a frame-fitted Perfect Fit® blind is a good choice because it moves with the window.

Choosing blinds for small windows
The best blind for a small window depends on the room and how much light you want to keep. In a cloakroom or bathroom, privacy usually comes first, so we'd often suggest a pleated or cellular blind that can cover the lower part of the glass. On a landing or in a utility room, a simple roller blind or an aluminium venetian blind is often all you need, and both wipe clean easily.
Where a window sits close to a corner, a cupboard or a tiled splashback, there may not be much room for brackets. We'll look at the space around the window and suggest a blind that fits neatly without looking cramped.
Inside or outside the recess?
Many small windows sit in a shallow recess (the opening in the wall the window sits in). Fitting a blind inside the recess looks tidy, but on a very small window it can take up some of the glass when the blind is raised. Fitting it just above and outside the recess lets the blind clear the window fully, which keeps as much daylight as possible. Frame-fitted Perfect Fit® blinds avoid the question altogether because they sit on the window itself.
If you have a run of small windows in the same room, such as a row of top-opening lights, we'd usually suggest matching blinds so they line up neatly and look like one design rather than several separate ones.
Measuring small window blinds
On a small window, a few millimetres can make a noticeable difference to how the blind looks and works. That's one reason we measure and fit every blind ourselves. If you'd like to see the options before we visit, our measuring and fitting guide explains what we look at, or you can book a free home appointment.
