What are wooden Venetian blinds?
Wooden Venetian blinds work in the same way as any Venetian blind, with slats that tilt and raise, but the slats are made from real timber. That gives a warmer, more substantial look, and with stained finishes you can see the natural grain coming through.
If you like the look of shutters but want something more flexible or easier on the budget, wooden blinds are often worth considering.
Privacy and light control
Tilt the slats up to keep your privacy while the room stays light, or close them for more shade. Wood slats are a little thicker than aluminium, so they feel more solid when closed. They won't make a room fully dark, though, so in a bedroom we'd usually suggest adding curtains or a blackout blind underneath.
Real wood or faux wood?
- Real wood is lighter than faux wood for its size and has a natural grain, so it's at its best in living rooms, bedrooms and studies.
- Faux wood copes better with moisture and is easy to wipe, so we'd point you towards it for kitchens and bathrooms.
Things to consider
- Stack depth: wooden slats take up more room at the top when the blind is raised. Fitting the blind above the recess (the opening the window sits in) keeps more of the glass clear.
- Weight on wide windows: large blinds can be heavy to lift, so splitting them or choosing a different style may be the better option. We'll talk this through with you.
- Sunlight: as with any natural material, strong sun can affect wood finishes over time.

We measure and fit every wooden blind ourselves, so you don't need to worry about the details. Book a free home appointment to see the finishes at your own windows, or call in to our showroom.
Styles & options
Choosing your wooden venetian blinds
Natural & stained wood
Let the grain show through, in finishes from light to dark.
Painted wood
Whites, greys and colours, so you can match your woodwork.
Faux wood
The look of wood, but better suited to kitchens and bathrooms.
Ladder tapes
Fabric tapes that give a tailored, classic finish.
Wider slats
A bolder look, with a more open view when tilted.
Narrower slats
A good fit for smaller windows and shallower recesses.
Colours, fabrics & finishes
Materials and finishes
Real wood blinds are made from natural timber, so every slat has its own grain. Finishes range from pale natural tones to dark stains and painted colours. Faux wood slats have an embossed grain that looks natural, and they cope better with moisture. Wooden blinds are usually finished with a matching pelmet over the headrail (the rail at the top) and a matching bottom rail, and decorative ladder tapes are available on many ranges. The best way to choose is to see the samples in your own light, and we're happy to bring them to you.
