Fresh air without the insects
Flyscreens let you keep doors and windows open in warm weather without letting insects in. Today's systems are slim, made to measure and designed to be used every day, rather than put up once a summer and forgotten.
Flydor flyscreens
We supply Flydor flyscreens, made in the UK at their Norfolk factory. The range has a screen for almost every door and window:
- Retractable door screens: the mesh rolls away into a slim cassette when you don't need it, in single or double door versions.
- Hinged screen doors: robust aluminium doors that open just like a normal door, ideal for busy back doors and kitchens.
- Folding (zig zag) screens: concertina panels for bi-fold doors, wide openings and garden rooms, which fold neatly to the side.
- Sliding screens: for patio and sliding doors.
- Window screens: simple framed screens, or retractable screens that roll away into a cassette.
Frames are powder-coated aluminium, with standard charcoal mesh as well as midge mesh, aluminium, stainless steel and pet-resistant mesh on selected systems.
Blind Screen by Hallis Hudson
If you'd like a blind and an insect screen in one, Blind Screen from Hallis Hudson is a slim, made-to-measure system that runs in side tracks. It can be fitted with flyscreen mesh, blackout fabric or both, so you can keep insects out in summer and block out the light at night. It's made in the UK and suits windows and doors up to around 6 metres wide.
Choosing the right screen
- Bi-fold and wide doors: folding or pleated screens slide across the opening and fold neatly away to the side.
- French and back doors: hinged screens open just like a door, and retractable screens are a neat alternative.
- Patio and sliding doors: sliding screens run along a track.
- Windows: framed or retractable screens, including ones for roof windows.
Living with a flyscreen
Low thresholds (the bottom rail you step over) mean there's less to trip over, and the screens tuck away when you don't need them. If you have pets, just ask us about the stronger mesh options.
For light and privacy as well, you can pair a flyscreen with bi-fold door blinds inside, or choose Blind Screen for both in one.
