Day & Night Blinds

If you want daylight and privacy from the same blind, day & night blinds are a good place to look. Two layers of fabric with alternating sheer and solid bands slide past each other, so you can let soft daylight in or line them up for privacy. We work across Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Yarm, Redcar and the towns around Teesside.

What are day & night blinds?

Day & night blinds, sometimes called vision or zebra blinds, use two layers of fabric with alternating horizontal bands of sheer and solid material. When you move the fabric, the bands slide past each other. Line up the sheer bands and daylight filters through; overlap them with the solid bands and the blind gives you more privacy.

Privacy and light control

Think of them as a modern alternative to Venetian blinds: you get a similar way of adjusting the light, but with the softness of fabric. They're ideal for rooms that face the street, where you want privacy without shutting out the daylight. They won't make a room fully dark, so for bedrooms we'd usually suggest pairing them with curtains or a blackout blind.

Things to consider

  • The look: the bands create a striped effect when the blind is down. Wider or narrower bands change the feel, and we'll show you both.
  • Stack: because there are two layers of fabric, the roll at the top is slightly larger than on a standard roller blind.
  • Operation: it can take a day or two to find your favourite band position. If you'd like it to be easier, motorisation helps.

Measuring and fitting

We measure and fit every blind ourselves, so you don't need to worry about the details. Book a free home appointment and we'll bring fabrics for you to compare at your own windows.

Colours, fabrics & finishes

Materials and finishes

A day and night blind uses a continuous loop of fabric with alternating sheer and solid bands. The front and back layers move past each other, so the bands can line up for privacy or sit offset to let soft daylight through. You can choose from plain, textured, metallic and wood-weave effects in a range of muted tones, with different band widths and levels of see-through, including dim-out bands on some ranges. We'll bring samples so you can see how they look at your windows.

Questions & answers

Your questions about day & night blinds

How do day and night blinds work?

The fabric runs in a loop, in front of and behind the roller. When the sheer bands line up, light comes through. When the solid bands overlap the sheer ones, the blind gives you more privacy. It's easier to see than describe, so we'll happily show you at your appointment.

Do day and night blinds give blackout?

No. Even with the solid bands overlapping, some light still passes through. For a bedroom, we'd usually suggest pairing them with curtains or choosing a blackout blind instead.

Are they also called vision or zebra blinds?

Yes. You may see day and night blinds described as vision or zebra blinds; they're the same thing.
