Home Office Blinds Ideas

Screen glare and changing daylight can make working from home harder than it needs to be. Here's how the right blinds can help.

Control glare without losing daylight

Natural light makes a workspace more pleasant, but low sun across a monitor soon becomes a distraction. So rather than shutting the light out completely, the aim is to soften it and direct it away from your screen.

Ideas that work well

  • Venetian blinds: tilt the slats to bounce light up towards the ceiling and away from your screen — see Venetian blinds.
  • Screen or dim-out roller blinds: these cut glare while still letting you see out — see roller blinds.
  • Day & night blinds: you can adjust the bands through the day as the sun moves round — see day & night blinds.
  • Vertical blinds: a good choice where your desk faces a wide window or patio door — see vertical blinds.

Things to consider

  • Where the sun falls: east- and west-facing rooms get low, direct sun at the start or end of the day, so it's worth thinking about when you'll be working.
  • Video calls: if your back is to the window, a light-filtering fabric behind you stops you appearing as a silhouette on camera.
  • Temperature: blinds can help a small room feel less stuffy on sunny afternoons.
