Dark shutters across tall glazing in an open-plan room

Shutters by Room

Conservatory Shutters

Conservatories and garden rooms can be bright and warm on sunny days. Shutters give you shade and privacy on the windows and doors, and they make a glass room feel more like part of the house. Our team measures and fits across Stockton, Middlesbrough and Teesside, from our Stockton-on-Tees showroom.

Shade and privacy

Shutters on the side windows of a conservatory or garden room give you shade, privacy and a more furnished feel. Tracked shutters work well across doors.

Pair with roof blinds

Shutters aren't designed for glass roofs, so we'd usually suggest conservatory blinds for the roof and shutters for the walls.

Choosing a material for conservatory shutters

Conservatories and garden rooms can get warm in summer and cool in winter, and some get condensation on the glass. For that reason we often suggest water-resistant faux wood shutters, which are a sensible choice wherever a room can get damp. Hardwood and MDF can work in a well-insulated garden room that feels like the rest of the house, and we'll give you our honest view once we've seen the space.

Shutters for doors and wide openings

Many conservatories have French doors or wide sliding doors. Tracked shutters run on a track, so the panels slide and stack to one side and keep the doorway clear. French door shutters are fitted to each door so they open with it. When we measure, we check how far the door and window handles stick out and how much space there is for panels to fold back, so nothing catches.

Light, privacy and combining with roof blinds

Louvres are the slats you tilt to control light. We offer 63mm, 76mm and 89mm louvres, and the larger sizes give the clearest view of the garden when open, which suits most conservatories. Closed or angled, they help with glare and privacy from neighbours. Because shutters aren't made for glass roofs, we'd usually suggest roof blinds in a colour that ties in with the shutters, so the whole room looks planned together. Day to day, a dust and a wipe with a damp cloth keeps them clean, and opening the louvres on warm days lets air move around the glass. See our heat and glare control page for more on keeping a conservatory comfortable.

Questions & answers

Your questions about conservatory shutters

Can I have shutters in a conservatory?

Yes, on the side windows and doors. For the glass roof, we'd recommend conservatory roof blinds alongside the shutters.

Will shutters help with heat in a conservatory?

They help by shading the side windows. For the best results, combine them with roof blinds or external shading.

Can shutters go on conservatory doors?

Yes. For wide sliding or folding doors, tracked shutters slide and stack to one side so the doorway stays clear. On French doors, the shutter panels are fitted to each door and open with it. We'll check handle clearance and the space for the panels when we measure.

Can I match conservatory shutters to roof blinds?

Yes, and it's a good idea. Shutters aren't designed for glass roofs, so we'd usually suggest conservatory roof blinds in a colour that ties in with the shutters on the walls. We'll bring samples of both so you can see them together.
