Comfortable screen work

Shutters let you angle daylight away from your screen without shutting it out completely, so your office stays bright and comfortable through the day.

A calm, tidy look

Shutters give a neat, architectural backdrop for video calls, and they're easy to keep clean.

Choosing home office shutters

It helps to think about where your desk sits in relation to the window. If light falls across your screen, tilting the louvres (the slats) lets you angle daylight up and away. Tier-on-tier shutters work well here: keep the top panels open for brightness and close the lower ones to cut glare at desk height. In a box room or spare bedroom with a small window, café style shutters give privacy while letting plenty of light in. For a garden room or converted garage with glazed doors, tracked shutters are worth a look.

Light and privacy through the working day

Morning and afternoon sun can change a room completely. With shutters, you can adjust the louvres as the light moves rather than closing everything off. If you sometimes need the room properly dark, Shutter & Shade adds a pleated blind behind the shutter. For a ground-floor office facing the street, closing the lower louvres keeps your desk and paperwork out of view. On video calls, half-open louvres give a soft, even light on your face, which is often kinder than a bright window behind you.

Measuring, finishes and care

When we measure, we check the depth of the recess (the opening the window sits in) and how far the window handle sticks out, and we'll note anything close to the window, such as a desk or shelves, so the panels can open freely. Most people choose a calm white or neutral for a working space, but we'll bring painted and stained samples. Hardwood, MDF and faux wood all suit a home office, and a regular dust is usually all they need. Our shutters buying guide explains the options in more detail.

Questions & answers

Your questions about home office shutters

Do shutters help with screen glare?

Yes. You can tilt the louvres to direct light away from your screen while keeping the room bright.

Can you fit shutters in a loft office?

Often, yes. Shaped shutters can be made for many angled and loft windows. We'll check your windows at the appointment.

Can I make a home office dark with shutters?

Closed louvres block most daylight, but a little will show around the edges. If you need the room properly dark, Shutter & Shade adds a pleated blind behind the shutter, and solid panel shutters block light without louvres. We'll show you both at your appointment.

Will shutters fit if my desk is under the window?

Usually, yes. When we measure, we'll check the space between the window and the desk so the panels can fold back. If space is tight, café style or tier-on-tier shutters can be easier to use, as you only need to open part of the shutter at a time.
